10 natural tips and tricks for repelling mosquitoes

One of the big (and only) drags of summer is dealing with mosquitoes. They’re everywhere this time of year, and most repellents out there leave skin coated with a film of icky chemicals that not only seem questionably safe for kids but smell awful too. Though most of us have heard of using citronella to ward off bugs, turns out that’s just the tip of the iceberg in terms of natural deterrents. Here, an array of pointers to keep mosquitoes away:

Why Women Love Shoes!

I saw this article and now I know why I just love shoes.
Even the ones I do not wear! So ladies read on..

First of all, there's some serious mood-boosting going on when you try on any kind of apparel. "The neurotransmitter dopamine is released, providing a feel-good high, similar to taking a drug," says Martin Lindstrom, a branding expert for Fortune 100 companies and author of Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy. "The dopamine increases until you swipe your debit card." Usually, the high then flatlines, and guilt starts creeping in...except, that is, when the item you're purchasing is a pair of shoes. "Shoppers rationalize shoes as a practical buy — something they can wear multiple times a week — so they hold on to that pleasurable feeling longer," says Lindstrom.

Fall in love with these shoes.

Why Do Some Foods Make You Gassy?

Foods that are major gas producers are more difficult to digest. Rather than being completely broken down into usable energy by the digestive system, they ferment and produce gas, burping, and flatulence.

Skin care for acne-prone skin

Unfortunately, finding an effective skin care regimen for acne-prone skin can be quite a frustrating experience. But acne can be controlled, and it is important that you understand what type of acne you have and seek treatment as soon as possible to avoid scarring. The best way to treat your acne is to be informed, aware, and positive. Find the right solution for your skin. What works for your best friend may actually make your skin much worse. Only attempt to self-treat your acne if it is very mild. Your pharmacist can help you choose the right product for you.
Here are a few basic steps to help you along the path to clearer skin:
Step 1: Clean. The first step is to cleanse the skin. Wet your face, then massage the cleanser onto skin in gentle, circular motions for 15 seconds to 5 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly. Never wipe or rub your face with the towel; blot or pat it dry. Keep these extra tips in mind when you're cleansing your skin:
  • Use a mild cleanser or medicated cleansers with either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in the morning and before bedtime.
  • Do not wash excessively or scrub too hard. This can strip the skin of its natural oils and may irritate already-present acne.
  • Avoid cream-based cleansers if you have oily skin. They may make your skin even oilier.
  • Some cleansers can also dry your skin, especially if you use them too much. You may have to try a few products before you find one that works well.

Oops. You tried your best. You know that the sun can damage your skin, causing premature signs of aging and boosting your risk of developing skin cancer. So you packed your sunscreen and you remembered to smooth some onto your skin before you headed out into the sunshine. But you still ended up with sunburn.
Perhaps you forgot to reapply every couple of hours? Perhaps you forgot to reapply after that quick mid-afternoon shower? Perhaps the SPF just wasn't enough for your skin type. For whatever reason, you're now over-baked, burned, and bemoaning your fate. What to do?
There is no quick cure for sunburned skin. Time heals. But as you wait for your charred skin cells to slough off and regenerate, you can take steps to soothe the pain, burn, and swelling associated with sunburn.
Here are 17 conventional and not-so-conventional items to add to your sunburn relief toolkit. Some you might have sitting around the house, others you may have to hunt down at health food stores or in the produce section. If your sunburn has blisters, don't apply anything on the burn without checking with your health care provider first.
